Upcoming ClassES
Exploring and Creating Poetry as Activism
(The ArtsCenter, Carrboro, NC – Winter Term 2024)
This 12-week course will help us to engage in conversation and in creative practice what it means to write poetry in the activist mode. We will try out various methods for writing activist poetry and consider how art (and poetry in particular) is able (or unable) to truly effect change in the world. Each class will emphasize collaboration and exploration as we lean on one another as fellow writers—regardless of experience level. We will write, think, discuss, play—all together. By the end, we will have each written and revised between 6-10 poems. In the final weeks of class, we will discuss options for publishing and performance. Students should always bring a notebook and writing utensil. Weekly readings will be provided digitally.
